Who should attend this four day course?

This course is perfect for line managers and aspiring senior managers. The course has been redesigned to develop the areas that others see as good manager traits and characteristics. Delegates will learn the skills and behaviours that will build their reputation as a manager to aspire to be like. 

Why should you attend?

This four-day ILM course is designed to support those in senior positions raise self awareness of their own leadership abilities and shortcomings. The course highlights the characteristics and behaviours of what people consider to be good manager abilities.  Delegates will be challenged to view situations differently and will learn tolls and skills to mitigate stress, develop others and capitalise on opportunities through innovation. This course is also aimed at aspiring senior managers who want to be successful in their next endeavour. How can a manager ensure that the business needs are met whilst doing more behind the scenes to ensure the future is also catered for and taken care of. On this ILM course, the senior manager will learn key skills to do just that. To obtain the Certificate, delegates are required to submit an assignment following each day of learning. 

You'll need to complete the four modules which are delivered one per day over a morning and afternoon session; so that's four sessions you'll need to attend.

Day 1: - Developing people in the workplace

  • Assess the potential benefits to the organisation of developing individuals
  • Assess the benefits to the individual of personal development
  • Assess how to manage an individual’s expectations in respect to personal development.
  • Evaluate development vehicles in the organisation appropriate to the development needs of the individual
  • Develop a plan to meet the identified development needs of an individual

Day 2 : Motivating People in the workplace

  • Evaluate theories of motivation relevant to your workplace
  • Evaluate the principal factors that may affect performance and motivation in the workplace
  • Select a theory of motivation and apply this to your workplace
  • Evaluate the impact of applying the theory of motivation on performance in the workplace.

Day 3: Solving People problems and making effective people decisions

  • Define a complex people problem in the workplace including its scope and impact
  • Analyse information on the identified problem, to help inform the decision making process
  • Propose a range of alternative solutions to the problem
  • Using a decision making technique, evaluate a range of solutions to identify the most appropriate option
  • Develop a detailed plan for implementing the solution
  • Communicate the plan to relevant stakeholders
  • Assess appropriate monitoring and review techniques to ensure successful implementation of solution

Day 4: Managing mental health in the workplace

  • Analyse the organisation’s current approach towards mental health
  • Assess how other organisations deliver mental health strategies and share examples of best case practices
  • Develop a plan to meet the requests for reasonable adjustments of a member of staff
  • Describe approaches to improve and manage mental health in the workplace
  • Advocate for the mental health of staff as a valuable resource
  • Communicate with staff about their mental health and support them to improve it
  • Assess own mental health and its potential effect on others

Completion of this course entails delegates submitting 4 assignments within the deadlines communicated at the enrolment stage. 

Delegates will be required to attend all 4 training days.
