A contract of employment exists as soon as you agree to pay someone in return for them undertaking or carrying out work for you. You are required by law to issue written terms of employment within eight weeks of an employee starting work.

Contracts should contain the explicit terms of employment for each employee including working hours, remuneration andcontract template holidays as these may vary between employees. You staff handbook should contain general terms of employment that apply to all employees such as the disciplinary procedure, working practices and Health & Safety policy.
